Mosaics are pieces of art that have been used for
decades, but the most commons are the Arabic ones, spectacular combinations of
simple figures to create an harmonious and complex structures. These can be
found in places like the Alhambra of Granada, and all of them follow a patron
without leaving any gaps between tiles.
In some of them it is difficult to see the geometric
figure where they come from because of its complexity. Moreover, each of them
has a name to be identified and studied. Here there are some of the mosaic that
can be found in the Alhambra.
Mosaics are very interesting and sometimes it requires
time and concentration to differ the different shapes that they have. For
students it might be difficult to find the shapes, but using mosaics is a funny
way to foster their spatial, logical and creative abilities by doing activities.
An example of activity could be creating their own mosaics using a variety of figures chosen by them.
Or finding the “hidden” shape in a given image of a mosaic.
I hope you liked this little approach to mosaics.
